  • Families provide us a sense of belonging. They give identity and provide us support, peace and tranquility. A family provides for wholesome growth of its children; it is a bastion of their security. Our family is made up of the people we care about and the people who care about us. Families are the structural units of a society. Healthy families make a healthy society. In modern times, the institution of family is facing challenges, resulting in problems in community living. To build a healthy society, we need to encourage the institution of family and their healthy thriving. We also need to pay attention to those children who have been deprived of the blessing of a nurturing family.

Scarborough Muslim Community extends the bonds of its families, beyond its own, to the community at large. Scarborough and Rouge Hospital has been a beacon of hope for our community, rendering life-saving and health promoting services. There is hardly anyone in Scarborough, who can say they do not have a friend or relative who has been touched by these services. The Scarborough Muslim Community feels that supporting and appreciating the Scarborough and Rouge Hospital is much needed and is consistent with the teachings of Islam and the example of Prophet Muhammad, may peace be upon him, who tirelessly worked hard to ease the hardship and for the betterment of the society that he lived in.

We have organized a Walkathon on this occasion to raise funds to enable the Scarborough and Rouge Hospital to purchase essential diagnostic equipment. This event will be on the Family Day, Monday February 19, 2018 at the Scarborough Civic Centre from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. All the local MPs, MPPs and Councilors, including the Honorable Mayor John Tory have been invited. Representatives of Scarborough and Rouge Hospital will also be present. This will be the 4th year that we are conducting this event. Previous events were well-attended and successful. We would like to make this year’s performance even better than before. We earnestly invite all to join us in this great cause, as a donor and/or volunteer.

This event does much more than simply raising money. It is one way to help our children develop their sense of philanthropy and social responsibility. It helps them see that we’re all connected and that giving to others also makes them feel good about themselves. It is an important message that they will take home.

  • Message from Organizers

On behalf of the Scarborough Muslim Community, and in partnership with the Scarborough and Rouge Hospital (SRH) Foundation, we cordially invite you to join us for the 4th Annual Family Day Walk-a- thon on February 19, 2018 as we undertake the challenge of raising $250,000 for SRH Foundation.

In 2015, we raised funds to purchase 5 Vital Sign Monitors for Centenary site. This is our fourth venture dating back to 2013. This year, we expect our largest gathering to date, including elected representatives, community leaders, hospital executives and youth in our community. We invite all members of the Scarborough Community to gather at Scarborough Civic Centre on Monday, February 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for a symbolic walk-a- thon in support of SRH Foundation.

    It’s our time.

It’s our time to create a model of care that is efficient and patient-focused. It’s our time to come together as a community and rally behind our hospital and inspire real investment from our government partners. It’s our time to see the great community of Scarborough get the credit it deserves for being a community of diverse cultures, innovative thinkers, as well as hard- working and values-oriented individuals and companies. On behalf of SRH Foundation, I would like to thank the Scarborough Muslim Community for their five year pledge to raise $250,000 for our community hospital. Together, we will revolutionize health care in Scarborough.
